Maiden Voyage with my Pack…

Today my husband and I  headed to the trails in the hills behind our home for the maiden hike with my backpack.  I filled it with my weights and gym- things to about 23 pounds with water.  When I picked it up, I thought, “WOW, I am going to be in trouble. This feels like 40-50 pounds.”

This isn’t the Pyrenees, but it’s up…

As soon as I got it on I knew two things….my pack (Osprey Aura 50) is a perfect fit, and 23 pounds on your back feels a lot less than carry 23 pounds like a sack.   We climbed through the forest and ended up going about 3 ½ miles.  I felt great, learned a great deal about my pack and all the adjustments I can make “on the fly” and the importance of packing correctly and evenly.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.

  1. Looking good Candi. I know you must be getting excited. Live in your moment and all will be fine. If anyone can do it, it is you.
