Our apartment is right above a wonderful little cafe and bakery called
This was my breakfast today; Blood orange juice, a Doppio, and a heavily apple pastry. The owner, chef is very passionate and shares his knowledge of his foods willingly.
Then off to a hike straight up the mountaintop about 2 miles.
This is a picture of Vernazza, where we started this am. We are perhaps a 10th if the way up!
The ascent was shale and large rocks for most of the way. Some of the trail was a “pull yourself up” We definitely shed our coats early.
Mariah shows her quad strength and agility taking the big steps in one single bound. 🤗
I had flash backs of the Camino de Santiago today and the climb to O Cabreiro. The Spain hike was much longer but the same terrain and grade.

We finally got into the forest and found a cooler, yet still climbing environment.
On the ground were a few arrows that also reminded me of the Camino.
Once over the top we started running into a few more people coming from Corniglia. There was a group of young college men from the US that were hugging and puffing. After giving them words of encouragement that they could make it to the top and how difficult the descent was going to be into Vernazza they looked at me and told me they were impressed. I assume that meant because of my age☠️. 😂
Corniglia is the only one of the villages without sea access. It sits atop a beautiful cliff over looking the Mediterranean. I found it very charming and it is filled with interesting shops and cafes.
We are at the same cafe that the Wild Walking Women ate at 20 years ago. It was delicious and very reasonable.
I ending the day with a wonderful meal where we started the day. Local fish and panna cotta.

Someday, I will have to go there…so beautiful and the food!!!!!
