Day 28 – Ponferrada to Sarria

We had to catch a very early train to Sarria this am. Once the sun came up I have discovered that I was correct; a weather change. It is completely overcast and is threatening rain as we travel west.

I find It difficult to have a segmented Camino. When you walk continually, it becomes a rhythm. It is what feeds my soul every day. Each time we have had a break, I find I am out of sync with Camino and find it hard to get back on the trail. I will be glad to have 5 days of solid walking to end. Just one small village after another, no large cities until Santiago.

We have a very nice house on the west side of Sarria. We spent the day exploring and getting settled until Heather and Rebecca arrived in the Mercedes taxi. Then we explored again.

This is my 3rd walk out of Sarria. It definitely has undergone a commercial surge on the Camino trail out of town. Where once there was once perhaps one cafe, now it is lined with cafes, commercial shops, and albergues and hotels.

The climb out of Sarria
Yes, cheaper than 2 buck Chuck.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.
