I have never been in the position like this. We will not knowing whether we will be allowed into my chosen hiking country until the day before we leave. Ireland is scheduled to allow vaccinated Americans in July 19th and we leave July 20th! Yes, we are crazy!!!!! We do have an alternate idea (I will not call it a plan). As long as we don’t leave the airport, we can fly to any other country in Europe that is open to Americans. We will just have to choose one that we can just put on our backpacks and start hiking with no reservations, no maps, just a return trip to Dublin for our return flight home on August 3. Fingers crossed we will be hiking the Dingle Way!
In two days we board or plane. I am truly missing getting ready for walking the Camino de Santiago. For Camino , I get my backpack, fill it with the bare essentials, have a reservation for the first night (or not) and start walking. I think COVID, a back strain, and general work stress has added many more layers to this trip. I know the ocean air, the green hills, amazing travel companions, and a few pints of Guinness 🍻will recharge my soul.
If you are in Dublin from Aug 2nd-3rd – let me know and I’ll stop by for a beer 😘

Travel has taken on a whole new level of anxiety…I am sure you guys will have the best time! I can’t wait to read about your experience. 🙂 Once you are on the plane you can let out a huge sigh of relief. I know that will be me and Alan once we are on our plane to Iceland on Thursday.
