Learning to slow down…..

My training has had a 6 week set back.  My head over heels tumble has restricted me from doing much of anything for the summer. Needless to say, it has been a challenge, mentally more than physically. I have learned one thing….there is no doubt about it; I am a v-e-r-y impatient person!

Ten minutes on the inversion table seems like an eternity, only being able to type for fifteen minutes without my neck going into a spasm frustrates me beyond belief and not having my body rebound with its’ normal 24 hour “that’s enough of that” spirit, has sent me into a nosedive.

As I wiggle and tap my fingers and toes while I am waiting for the acupuncture needles to do their magic or the heating pad and electric stimulation to get me ready for physical therapy. I have begun to see why I really need this long walk in Spain. My mind needs calming. The luxury to focus only on moving forward each day, nourishing my body, and falling into a bed, tired from physical exhaustion, seems like the perfect vacation.

One of my doctors asked me if I would still plan to walk the Camino de Santiago if I felt like I do today.  I didn’t hesitate to say that I would go.  I know that I would have to taxi my backpack most of the time if I felt like this. I would have to walk shorter days, but I would go.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.
