This is where I will be doing a lot of my training; my wonderful little town of Montesano, Washington. Right now it is hunting season, so I won’t be doing much hiking in the forests around and behind our town for the next two months. So urban walking it is….

The day I decided to start my training I found my mind wandering through all the information I have gleaned from the blogs, films, YouTube videos, and Facebook posts, by past pilgrims of the Camino. I worry a bit that I am gathering too much information and will have expectations when I start my own pilgrimage. Debby and I have talked about this and we both feel our plan is to let the Camino lead us. We have the time this summer to let our bodies and the experiences of the French Way set our agenda.

This week Debby and I bought our tickets. We have both had some things that have been weighing heavily on the planning of this trip; but neither of us can ignore the “call”. We bought our tickets; relief and excitement replace all the obstacles and concerns.
I have read many accounts of pilgrims feeling frightened as to whether they can do the 500 miles. I haven’t felt any anxiety about the hiking; but then I always jump in head first without much thought as to what could go wrong. It really isn’t that I don’t plan things to the point of obsession, but I have always been a girl to give things a try and see what happens. We are leaving Montesano on June 24, 2014 to Paris and then onto Saint Jean Pied de Port for our journey of a lifetime, experiencing it in the moment, no expectations, no agenda, no schedule.
