“Messing” Around

“Messing” Around

I have been sorting through my bags and “stuff” for my Camino.  It is quite fun to organize and think about what makes sense in each compartment.  I try visualizing getting in from a long day of hiking and being able to reach into my pack for first thing I will want….probably my sandals.  So they are going in a quick grab compartment.  I am wondering if I will want to shower first (bath bag at the top of my pack) or check for bed bugs?  I am thinking the latter.  This is the only negative thoughts that I am having about this journey.   Blisters, deal with them; tired muscles, no worries; dorm life, I am not modest and I have ear plugs; but BEDBUGS!  As some of you know from my Greece blog, I couldn’t stand even tiny fishes (well actually one seemed like it could have been a baby shark) cleaning my

feet at the spa.  I am actually quite brave and adventurous, but I know my limits. So I bought Permethren (I  know, a synthetic chemical).  But doesn’t  it count that it is similar to pyrethrum which is taken from the Chrysanthemum flower?   I will spray my pack and sleeping  sack before I leave.   I know that bedbugs can be in the nicest hotels in Seattle, but I don’t like to think about them in bed with me anywhere.  We, Pacific North-westerners, live a pretty bug free home life!

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.
