Day 18 -Cardenuala to Burgos

We slept in until 6:00 today. It is odd that I cannot go to sleep at night. The heat is very hard for me at night; and the FLIES. If there is one thing I don’t like about the Camino, it is the flies!!! I cannot stand their little feet on my skin…much worse than the fish cleaning my feet in Greece.

I love how local people encouage the pilgrims!

We meet so many local people who are so helpful.  If they see you making a wrong turn they walk you to the right way, they wave as you walk by and wish you “Buen Camino”, and then a family paints on their driveway a Camino greeting.  My heart is full with their graciousness.

The walk into Burgos was through the industrial area. I didn’t mind it because we were busy trying to avoid getting killed!  So time went quickly.

Our hotel is great. Towels, bathtub, sheets; all for 49€ a night!

And the best treat ever…two of our favorite couples, the Danes are staying in our hotel and as we were sitting having a glass of Rioja, Tax  and Shanny, a mother and son from Switzerland that we have been trying to find out where they were on their journey, were taking pictures right by our table!  We were so glad to see them.  It had been almost a week since we had last been in the same village.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.
