Well I discovered something. Too tight might now be a good idea. I synched up my Achilles heel brace that I wear at night a little too tight. In the middle of the night I woke up in excruciating pain thinking I had ruptured my tendon before I even started the Camino, only to find the I had nearly cut off circulation to my foot. Someday I will have to learn if a little bit is good then more might be a bad thing.
Laura and I arrived early morning and were able to check into our apartment. It is right below the Porto Cathedral where our Camino will begin.
We walked about 10 miles today around Porto. It is a fascinating city.
We explored the city and had lunch in an outside cafe. Laura ordered a Francesinha, a traditional sandwich of Portugal. The literal translation for its name is ‘Little French Girl’, however, the only thing little about it, is the name. It’s a rather large sandwich filled with layers of beef steak, cured meat, fresh sausages, topped with cheese, covered with a beer sauce, and served with French fries. She also was sure to order the especial. So an egg was added to the mix. Each time she took a bite a new meat appeared she uttered, “0h my, it also has…..” It was a bit overwhelming but she managed to almost get through the entire sandwich.
Ian arrived in the late afternoon to a warm welcome from Laura. Notice the Camino arrow right out our window and at their feet!
Highlights of our day
Of course we ended the day with port on the seawall and dinner of tapas.
