Day 6 – Rubiães to Valença 10.7 miles

Today was a quick walk. It was warm but off of pavement most of the day. We started on road, went to path, then to mud, then through a construction site, back to path, etc. all day.

I am walking at a gentle pace. No slower than I had planned, maybe a bit more thoughtful. I like the quiet rhythm of maintaining a walk that allows you to easily fall into contemplation. It is hard to break the cycle of accomplishment being the goal, not the journey itself.

Definitely the highlight of the day was the wonderful little cafe/albergue in the middle of the forest. Unfortunately we were not ready to eat, but the food was handmade and looked delicious. I wished that I could have just settled in there for the day.

Valença is a beautiful walled city. We have a great private albergue and get beds.

Tomorrow we walk into Spain. A

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.
