Day 3 The Sun Is Out

Today feels like I am on a Déjà vu merry-go-around. It truly isn’t déjà vu it is memories of walking through the same villages three times. But many things have changed, new cafés, small villages that are now seeing new housing and I think the beginning of prosperous recovery from the Covid years

Karen and I just happened upon this very cute café. We needed to use their restroom so of course we also ordered coffee. I asked if he had a potato tortilla and he said that he didn’t but had a special egg dish. I had really set my heart on having a potato tortilla and said thank you just coffee. He looked at me and said look at my stamp! (see above) My egg especial is wonderful. If you don’t like it I won’t charge you for it.

I was waiting in this long line to use the bano and missed the first presentation. But I got out of line to hear the instructions for my part! It truly was one of the best day eggs dishes I’ve ever eaten.

The rest of the day was spent meeting a lot of new people with many interesting stories. We met several groups of women, some from California and some from Washington and Oregon. I met a very interesting woman from Japan who is walking solo. Many were on their first Camino’s and we’re enjoying their experience very much.

Many times today I felt a connection with Eva and Heather, my granddaughter and daughter. We had walked the section together. I cannot explain to myself or anyone else what makes walking the Camino with people you love such a profound experience. I am glad that I get to do this again with my good friend Karen and that she gets to do it with her brother Bob.

It’s is impossible to believe that tomorrow we will be walking into Santiago. I feel like I need more time on the Camino to prepare myself for entry onto the Cathedral plaza.

I spent the afternoon resting my tendon for tomorrow’s section. We will have many miles of pavement as we walk the final 12 miles.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.
