Day 1 on the Finstera Camino

Today we start a new adventure that has been on my list of “will do someday!”. We are walking from Santiago to the Coast or “the end of the world”. Our journey will take us to Finsterre and then up to Muxia.

It was a beautiful hike but challenging. There was a small mountain to go over besides many hills. The mountain seemed endless, but we made it, of course to only walk down into a valley.

I was walking along today, minding my own business, when a fly flew into my ear and got stuck there! It was buzzing and flapping its wings for about five minutes. I was totally freaking out because I hate flies. I think that it finally flew out or that it’s somewhere walking around in my brain. I hope it didn’t have time to lay eggs!

Karen’s first alberge. She is hanging her laundry that she hand washed. We have a private room but a shared bath. This was the craziest Albergue I think I’ve ever stayed in. We had three keys to get through three doors, and none of them worked very well. Luckily we weren’t the only ones having trouble so we had quite the laugh.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.
