This is a hike that I like to do seasonally. Today it felt like we were doing it mid summer with the weather still in the high 70s. Luckily the loop trail is covered by the forest canopy the whole way.
This loop hike has a 2 ½ mile climb whether you do it clockwise or counterclockwise. I think the counter clockwise climb is a little bit more gradual. Poles are highly recommended on this hike because of that climbing and the downhill.
Don’t let the climb discourage you. There are many benches strategically placed for you to rest when you need a break. At the top there are two great locations for a snack with large rock And the river and benches.

Where is upper big creek – looks and sounds like a great hike!
