Day 1. SJPP to Orisson

And I am off….

Today was extremely hot and very humid. I didn’t sleep well and nothing but coffee for breakfast so all those things made a challenging day.

Today was difficult. Like childbirth, I forgot the pain of the first 7 km of the Frances. Tomorrow is another climb but just 3/4 of the day. Then a technical downhill into Roncevalles. Almost never a break from steep climbs. My watch recorded a 20 percent grade several times, and not for a short climb.

Obviously overheated.
A much needed break. Four countries were represented here and at least three states.

There is such a great group of people on the Camino this am. I spent the day visiting and making friends with so many people.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.

    1. Thank-you for sharing makes me feel lazy. I am happy with 2 miles a day but love going on your adventures. You make me stronger, thanks.

  1. You never cease to amaze me Candi. The heat and humidity really exhaust you, be careful. It’s beautiful, and I wish I had your fortitude to be there and experience it; Living vicariously through you. Buen Camino..❤️🚶‍♀️
