Day 19 – Frómista to Carrion de Los Conder

I very rarely have dreams about my sister; maybe never in my adult life… it’s complicated. But last night I dreamed that she was in my private room with me.

This morning the dream was weighing heavy on my mind. On the Camino Meseta I have done some soul searching each time, but never felt such sorrow. It felt very strange to me to have such a heavy heart. As I walked on I felt the weight lift. I realized she gave me two of my life’s most precious blessings; Adam and Max. They are her legacy. I’m still a bit emotional, but I think it’s because gratitude is so much better than regret or disappointment. The Meseta!

After this experience, I was walking with a man from Asia. I wondered if men had the same emotional experiences on the Meseta. We walk quietly side-by-side for a while, and then I asked him what he thinks about on the Meseta. He told me that he had been doing a lot of thinking about the very early years of his life. I could tell by his voice that it was very emotional memories. We walked on an silence.

My Albergue is adorable and has the best bed I have had all of the Camino. This town is very charming.

I had dinner tonight with two amazing women; one from the US and one from the Netherlands. They invited me to join them. Their stories were engaging. Unfortunately the picture didn’t come through that one of them sent, but our meeting and conversation will defiantly stick with me.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.
