Day 6 – Sorrento to Rome

We had another train ride again today. We are returning to Rome, where we will spend four days before heading home. We rode the local train to Naples and then upgraded to the fast train, which saved us two hours.

After we checked into our room, we decided to do a whirlwind walkabout through the Roman ruins. One block, you are in a cityscape and then an area that is thousands of years old pops up in front of you! I find the ruins fascinating and haunting. It is as if I can feel the suffering of the slaves and gladiators around me. I wish I could get past this.

The Forums and the Colosseum.

After all that sightseeing, we stopped at a small cafe for a disappointing pizza and service. Suddenly, the street was filled with the most beautiful singing. Always something good wins over the mediocre.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.
