Day 5 – Viana do Castelo to Vila Praia de Ãncora

Just a perfect day. Mileage was good, I had plenty of time to sander through the forest and small villages and the path had a variety of surfaces. There were a couple of tough climbs, but well worth it.

I had some great conversations with some Americans today in a couple of cafes. For the most part I am walking alone during the day which has been quite delightful the last two days. Just me and the birds, the smell of eucalyptus trees and the rushing of a few small waterfalls.

Every Camino I feel the presence of my “brother” Mike McMeekin. He loved fox gloves and every time I pass one I know he is with me on the trail. We talked about walking a Camino together, but it never came to pass.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.
