As those of you who have been following me know, I love to hike in Spain. But I have also been wanting to visit the countryside in Tuscany again. At 76 (actually I will be 77 when this happens!!!!!) I have decided to expand my itinerary a bit. It just so happens that my friends, Vini, Laura, and Clara have not been to Tuscany. We love hiking, good food, and wine, so after one false start, HERE WE GO.

I researched hiking in Tuscany, and the Via Francigena popped up. This pilgrimage begins in Canterbury, England, and ends in Leuca, Italy (a total of 3000 km); it has 149 sections through England, France, Switzerland, and Italy. Because some of us don’t have months to hike, we chose the sections from Lucca to Sienna, through Tuscan hills and vineyards, with some road walking, a few major climbs and mileage, but always with promises of some wonderful wine and food at the end of each day.u

Laura and I will leave a week early to explore one of my favorite places in Italy, Cinque Terre. We will hike between the five villages, becoming immersed in small village life. Going in the shoulder season doesn’t guarantee that we won’t have Disneyland tourist crowds during the day, but we can only hope for moderately congested small streets during the day.
Fantastic! Another chapter of adventure to add to your world wide Wild Woman Walking journey. I so admire your spirit of heart and your ability to continue your “happy fleet footed” frolic. Looking forward to living vicariously through your experiences.
Good for you girls!
