Day 21- Hornillos de Camino to Castrojeriz

 Today was a great day for both of us walking; I think a first. We both felt good when we arrived into our new destination. The heat held off until late afternoon so we could bank and go to our favorite store, the pharmacy. We spend more money there than we do on a months worth of albergues. Today it was bug bite remedy, insoles, ankle wrap and recovery drink!

But a miracle happened today. My ankle was sore and I was limping, loosened my boot at the top, tightened my boot, wrapped my ankle, complained and then about 2 km from our destination, after three days, there was completely no pain.  Suddenly, nothing!!! Tomorrow is Debby’s turn for a miracle!!!!

We spent most of the walk in wheat fields and then the Camino took us to the valley along the river. It was a very nice change and of course the shade was very welcome.

The small village we are in is working hard to restore the old area of the town. We went to a church that is now an information museum about the Camino. It is hard to explain, but neither Debby nor I have felt like sight-seeing, yet we went to this museum. The video that was show spoke so deeply to us. At first the challenges of this journey can be so overwhelming either physically or emotionally that you sometimes wonder what am I  doing?  This short film spoke to our hearts and minds so clearly. That Camino thing again.

 
Another sweet moment today:  we were out shopping and were walking back to our albergue. A boy about 10 rode by  us on his trick bike.  On his back was a pack with the family baguettes from the local bakery. He rode by us and slowed down to say, “Buen Camino” with a smile on his face.  It was so sincere it brought tears to my eyes.

Tomorrow is the garlic festival in this town. In the Mayor Plaza locals had gathered to peel the garlic for the free garlic soup to all who come to the village. We are sorry to have just missed their festival.
