Strong Start Then….

A lot of the hike today was just putting in miles. Most of our “trail” was on secondary roads with one or, barely, two lanes. I imagined I could have just been walking in the Brady Bottoms at home. All this pavement on tired feet is not a good combination.

Then add distractions, such as shopping….

Finally we arrived at the beach

Then the discovery was made that we would be walking right past our Bed and Breakfast to finish the hike 6 more miles down the road. The plan was that our innkeeper would pick us up at the end of the day and bring us back to the B&B. The carrot was no longer hanging in front of our noses just out of reach. We were not at the top of a mountain with nothing to do but finish. The shower, bed, comforts were right there six miles shy of our trails end.

For those of you who know me, the idea of not doing every mile of this journey was something that I had to work out in my head. But we had not eaten anything but nuts and snacks since breakfast and it was already 4:00 pm; 10 miles was to be our finish for the day.

Our B&B is luxurious and they have laundry service. I have been wearing dirty socks for three days; thank goodness for quick dry underwear!

Tomorrow is rain & wind so our assault on the highest mountain in Ireland will not be safe. Another disappointment that I will survive.

The story of life’s journey. One day of walking with the fairies and the next coming to terms with missed goals.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.
