Ticking Off Prep Items From My To Do List

After purchasing my ticket to London in February, I decided to try to put my seventh Camino on the back burner for a bit. That is not always possible for me once my ticket is confirmed because I go down the rabbit hole of planning. Now that I am…

….weeks away, I am ready to enjoy the reality of getting to walk 500 miles again. 🤞🏻

@osprey This is my 36 L pack that I will carry my life in for over a month. It fits me well and has been my Camino Companion hiking the trails of the Dingle Way in Ireland, the Primativo Lugo, the Portuguese Camino from Porto, and the Camino Finisterra. And yes! I got a bit carried away with patches!

Today I purchased my travel insurance. For others who are on Medicare it is important to know that it does not cover any care outside of the United States. Your supplemental may, but travel insurance with a good evacuation and medical/dental is very important, especially if you are hiking.

On Mother’s Day I bought my new boots. My old boots have over 1000 miles on them so it was time! I bought my standby that have served me so well @Keens Targhee III. I have never had a blister with these boots so why change?

I plan on carrying my full pack this Camino. With my heel bone spur and Achilles tendon injury at the start of my last two Camino’s, I used the luggage transfer for some gear a lot. I always felt a bit naked without my pack. I am going ultra light on packing this time and will be putting up my packing list soon. But I am leaving myself open to whatever the Camino has in store for me and will adapt as I go. I remember meeting a woman in her 70’s walking the Frances when I walked at 60 and thought WOW. And now I am that woman at 73!!!

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.

  1. I can only hope to get to do as many as you have. 🙂 We are excited for you getting to do another Camino and we’re thrilled we will be there once again! Alan’s plantar fasciitis is really bothering him and he is stressing if it will heal in time. I keep telling him he has 3 1/2 months and it will be fine…crossing fingers.

  2. Once again, I’ll be following your adventure. The first time I followed you, I had never met you. Afterwards I saw you at AHS and introduced myself and told you my new motto. WWCD-What Would Candi Do? What company do you use for insurance coverage?

  3. So amazed at your endurance, dedication, determination, and strength at this point in our lives. You are amazing. I wish I had your health! Blessed journey, always! 💕
