Day 8 – Los Argos to Viana

Finally I am feeling like the physical part of the Camino will see the end before the whole one third of my journey. I still keep my slow and steady pace that I set for myself but am climbing Spanish mountains without stopping as much. Unfortunately the early pilgrims didn’t waste time with switchbacks.

The storms last night left a lot of mud and water on the trails! Puddles were deep and sticky and slippery. My friend Jolanda left after I did and got stuck in the mud, fell over and had to be rescued by the German Girfriend Group. She made it to a bus stop and bussed the rest of the way to Viana soak and wet and mud from head to toe.

It was a good day of meeting new friends, Sue from Texas; joining old friends, Cindy from Florida, and walking into a bull fiesta at my favorite Camino village, Viana.

Jolanda and I shared an apartment that overlooked the makeshift bull “fighting” ring. It was fun and the fiesta is still going on at 12 midnight outside our window.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.
