Day 5 – Pompeii

There are a lot of families traveling together. The teenagers seem bored, but I know they will remember their family trip with fond memories as the years go by. Today, I observed two teenage girls intently, looking at their phones until one noticed a flock of chickens outside the train window. They got very excited watching the chickens, discussing how many roosters and “so many chickens”, “oh, look at this,” etc. Then one girl solemnly stated, “I don’t know what to think about poultry.” ❤️ I giggled. That is something to ponder in depth!

Most of the younger children are exceptional travelers. Unless hunger or exhaustion has said in, they figure out how to entertain themselves with the pickup football game or tag in the piazza.

Another train trip today to go on a tour of the Pompeii archeological site. Although this is the shoulder season, it was busy. I honestly cannot imagine life here during the summer.

Being part of a tour group, following someone with an umbrella was new to me. I have seen many of these tour groups before, of course. Although it was very informative, I miss exploring or taking my time for photographs.

We made it back to Sorrento in time to eat at our favorite restaurant; Enjoy the Little Things. We again met new “friends” to visit with from the US and from England.

Tomorrow we leave for Rome. I have enjoyed Sorrento except for the partying in the streets outside our window until 3 am every night.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.
