I am a bit of a mess….

Walking the Camino is about the experience; letting the journey unfold before you. This is my vision for our journey on the Primativo.

I feel a bit unprepared. After numerous Caminos you would think that I could pack without a list, need no new purchases; just jam, bang and take off. Well…..

Aging has changed things a bit. Now, there are more recovery powder drinks, vitamins, and medications, and a need for lightweight packing more than ever. I am determined to carry my pack every day this Camino. Starting the last two Caminos with injuries made sending my pack a few times a necessity, but I always feel a bit “off” without my pack for some reason. Also transfering your pack takes planning and reservations every night. I am hoping to avoid too much “planning” and just “walking”.

Chaos Reigns….

I am trying to not overpack. i have one change of clothes, and the other trail necessities. It all adds up. But with my new lightweight pack, I am at 14 pounds, sans food and water. Better than most Caminos. So today, in a few hours, we start out for our 11 hour flight to Dublin.

The top shell is a gift from Eva,, my granddauger, and Kiah from their Kumano Camino in Japan.

Oh, did I mention I decided to help my training I would buy a under desk tread mill? First day, I strained my left glute….hey! it takes skill to look at two screens and type, read, and think….then you add walking…..disaster. So here I go to the most mountainous Camino with a strained glute! I keep reminding myself that I walk the Camino as a journey of self awareness, not a vacation. I think with this as my mantra and “the Oscar Weaner” theme song…if you have followed my blog you know this is my get over the pain song that goes through my head constantly while walking….yes, it is weird…

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.

  1. I understand completely ! Having met you and Eva on my Camino, you taught me so much! I talk about you to everyone that will listen! You told me the most important thing was to listen to my feet! The first time I did not and I paid dearly. I am so jealous that Eva walked in Japan

I want to walk the 88 temples! Let’s do it together.
like you, I still want to carry my pack. I don’t like reservations! Also, I kept my pack at 14 pounds!
    You got this girl!
