Day 3 – Cornella to Bodenaya

Well I have had might feet up all day, except for the visit to the bakery, café for second breakfast and then to the market for food before dinner tonight.

I was in the grocery store and was trying to buy a knife for some meat and cheese I was taking to Josh. I asked a young woman customer if she spoke English since the clerk didn’t. She helped me with the translation, but they had none to sell. As I walked out, the manager gave me a small paring knife as a gift from their deli. ❤️

Josh left around 8:30 and was finished at 1:45. He did great. It was a big climb today

Josh loved his hike today. He was alone except for one cyclist. It is a much quieter trail than the Frances but lovely and we are gather a Camino Family. We missed each other but the Camino took us separately today. It was good.

And then we arrived at Bodenaya! It is funky, quaint, welcoming, charming, homey and it has the perfect hosts. They have a Camino love story that spanned a couple of decades, two marriages to others, Allison deciding to moving to Spain where Alberto lived. And then six years later, buying an albergue with a beautiful history of hospitality.

Plus Allison is from Twisp, Wa., a Pacfic Northwest woman! She and Josh had so many Okanogan areas to share stories about with his hunting in that area and her long distance running in the mountains there. The people who stayed there and the wonderful hosts made for a great night. And then the guitar came out we had music! David is a music teacher from California walking with a U.K. friend Daniel who he met on the Camino Frances and now get together to walk.

It was a very memorable night with a family of three from Seattle, Michael from Ukraine, who is studying in France, and a young woman from Italy.

The next morning….another musician dropped in to pick up Daniel and David and sent us off with song…

I am walking….16 miles today. Hopefully no more taxis for me.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.
