Day 13 – Ventoza to Azofra

Early start with a spectacular sunrise. My feet started out feeling great.

I made the girls climb up this extra hill for a picture and you can barely see them. šŸ˜‚

A cat cannot peak it’s head out without these two scrambling after it. 🄰

Our albergue was a municipal (state run, so very inexpensive. It had rooms for two with single beds, no bunksšŸ‘šŸ», and a nice court yard. I shared a room with 77 year old Swedish woman on her fourth Camino. She says she thinks this will be her last. She apologized for deciding to send her bag daily with a transport company!!!! She was up at dawn and out the door. Admiration!!!!!!

I am off the Camino tomorrow for a few days to heal. It was a very hard decision to make but the best for everyone. It isn’t easy to watch someone struggle and I am holding Eva back, besides walking in pain that is so bad at night I cannot go to dinner. Missing a good meal and wine…..

A new adventure tomorrow. Solo with taxi, bus and then HOTELšŸ˜again for a few days. Once I made up my mind, I am feeling better.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.

  1. Sounds like a good plan. Those feet need to last you the rest of your life! Be good to yourself and enjoy. Everyone knows Candi Bachtell has never been an easy quitter! šŸ˜˜ā¤ļø

  2. Well hello Common Sense! This break will let you enjoy the reminder of your adventure.
