Paris….

It started badly with Eva’s bag missing. No sign of it at the airport luggage pick up! So tired, hungry and frustrated we have the challenge of manipulating the luggage claim department with a language barrier. Eva stayed calm and got everything filled out and away we went hopeful that all would go well and her bag would be on the 11:00 pm flight.

A late dinner in a Parisian corner cafe.

AM. No bag….

We go off for breakfast and a day of sightseeing.

Hundreds of miles and we didn’t get enough walking in, so off we go to the highest peak in Paris.

Sacred Heart cathedral.
All of Paris below us.

What comes up must go down….so down we went. Next stop The D’Orsey Museum. Into the metro we went. A very helpful guy from Paris helped us with our ticket purchases (he might have decided it was easier and faster to help us rather than wait for us to figure it all out).

PICK POCKET ALERT!!! Here is a guy picking his own pocket!
It started to pour!

The lines to the museum were long, and it was raining so hard that we decided to…

eat crepes 🤗 and have a coffee then French Onion Soup.

Fortified, back to the museum line.

It was well worth the wait. An afternoon spent with the masters (and thousands of people taking pictures and selfies of the art). Heather had warned us, but it was still shocking.

We needed three days. I cannot imagine going to the Louvre

We really worked up an appetite strolling three hours through the the museum so off to another early dinner. We went to a charming small café with delightful food, service and atmosphere.

Duck confit. Perfect. And the potatoes were amazing. Wine was great. Expectations met in all regards.
Braised chicken, mashed potatoes and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Happy girl who only got happier with…
Coffee and Chocolate Cake.
Apple tart and amazing ice cream.

We got so relaxed at our long meal that we had to speed walk to our boat tour on the Seine. I was literally jogging at times; didn’t know I could still do it!😉 People were romantically strolling along the river as we sped past them. I felt shin splints coming on.

I got in a few pictures until Eva noticed I had slowed down.
Made it! Minutes to spare…
The start of a breathtaking evening. Our tour guide was great and the night was perfect.
The Louvre
So many historic bridges.
Notre Dame. 😢
The end of an exhilarating, whirl wind day in Paris with my wonderful traveling partner.

We ubered back to our hotel, jumped into bed and went soundly to sleep. Then at 12:25 am….the fire alarm went off. I jumped out of bed, woke up Eva and we ran down the stairs to the street. These are the other guests in the hotel, so completely dressed; that came out minutes later.

This is how we ended our Paris in the Rain Day. 12:30 am. Eva and I are second ones out, no shoes, no coats…

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.

  1. This looks fun. I have a walking group of neighbor ladies that has been together for 20 years. We usually just walk around the neighborhood, but it looks like you ladies step out a bit more. I want to follow along!

  2. You two surely know how to make the best memories of all! What a wonderful trip! Thanks for sharing!

  3. You all are amazing and, Candi, you haven’t lost your sense of humor. A few times I burst out laughing! Hope the bag turned up.
