This was a day! Lots of good, a bit of crazy, but I must get to sleep and get ready for a long hike tomorrow…
So here was our 1st mistake of the day….Right turn.
Out the door and the fatal right turn….
2nd mistake; looking back (NORTH), the direction we should be walking; knowing that the Atlantic should always be on our right; then not stopping when there was no expansion bridge spanning where the bay meets the ocean.
Mistake #3. Reading the directions that said there was not much elevation gain and continuing to climb anyway.
Mistake #4. Thinking it was funny.
Thankful for today….
The fairies answered my wishes again, see a shearing station.
Learning that sheep nibble grass “walking” on their knees.
And my wish to watch as a shepherd and his dogs herd the flock….even if it is coming directly at us.
The caring Irish people. Angela and her son were walking by as we were trying to figure out how to manage our 8 mile mountain hike in the wrong direction. We ask her a few questions and they walked on. On their way back she asked us if we had our problem “sorted out”. Hearing that er had not, she offered to drive us to our final destination of the day, Castledavid. By then, it was apparent that starting a 16 mile day with eight miles already under our belts (in the wrong direction) was not a going to happen. We accepted her generous offer and had a lovely visit with her.
Irish Whiskey and beer !!!!We found a cute pub and filled our table with drinks…..
Not so good about the day.
#1 I am not good at setting a goal and not accomplishing it. Skipping a whole section of the Dingle Way was hard for me.
#2 Our first encounter with midges, flying huge swarms of minute blood-sucking insects.
Midge protection!!!!! They were even worse as we climbed the mountain.
I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.

I had to laugh at your mistake #4 😂I’m glad you have so much to be thankful for. Even though you had the disappointment of missing a section of your hike, it did give a good story. 🙂
Our head nets saved us for the few days of midge attacks. I grew to love the wind for stopping their assault.
