Day 9 – Nigrán to Vigo

Today was a lot of climbing, which surprised me. I must’ve been looking at the Literal when I checked for elevation today. My entire day was spent solo. The only time I saw it anyone was when I went into a town village. I assume most pilgrims are choosing to walk the flat path of the literal. I had hours of quiet, contemplative walking.

The day had many “Buen Camino” greeting from locals in the towns and villages. This home welcomed pilgrims with a trail angel stand set up in their courtyard.

The urban walk was mainly in a park along a small river, but large cities are always confusing and startling after a quiet forest.

My private room is tiny but perfect. I am in the 2nd floor which is 3rd floor to us. And as usual, there is no elevator.

Vigo has a vibrant little plaza, everyone (well, not me) was partying until about 3 am.

If you’re wondering why I don’t have any great pictures of food. It’s because I have no appetite yet. It’s very disappointing to be in Spain and not be hungry. 😳 Also I have yet to see a pilgrims meal offered at any of the cafés. When you’re not hungry, it’s always an easy choice because at least you get a salad, protein, small dessert and local wine. Also I haven’t seen one Albergue offer a communal meal. I miss that opportunity to sit with other people and share a meal.

I am a woman of age reinventing myself in my 70’s. I owned a restaurant for 36 years, was a high school CTE instructor in Culinary Arts, and I’m now looking for my next chapter in life. I am restless. I do know that hiking, travel, and sharing my love of food and wine will play a part in my new adventures.
